A dog breed a day in the hope of educating potential owners about the needs of their new canine companions.
Although originally used as a sheep-herding dog, today the Beauceron are often used as police and military dogs. They are the largest of the French Shepherd breeds and are happiest when they have a job to do. These dogs are extremely bright but require a firm hand in training and are not recommended for a first-time dog owner. Beauceron tend to be very protective of their family which makes them excellent guard dogs. They love to be around their family but tend to be overwhelming to small children and shy around other animals. These dogs need plenty of daily mental and physical exercise. Their coat is easy to maintain and needs only a weekly brushing. The Beauceron may not be the perfect companion pet but its loyalty and intelligence makes it an excellent dog for an active, experienced owner.
